BEIJING, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Tianwan nuclear power plant's 500 kV transmission channel has sent out over 410 billion kWh of clean electricity to the Yangtze River Delta as of August 20. This amount is equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 110 million households and carbon dioxide emission reduction by 330 million tons, according to State Grid Liangyungang Power Supply Company.
Located in Lianyun District, Lianyungang City, east China's Jiangsu Province, Tianwan nuclear power plant plans to build eight units with a total installed capacity of over 9 million kilowatts. Upon completion, the plant can generate over 70 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, making it the world's largest nuclear power base in terms of total installed capacity.
Currently, No.1-No.6 units of the Tianwan nuclear power plant are in operation, providing approximately 158 million kWh of clean electricity every day. Meanwhile, No.7 and No.8 units are under construction, which are expected to be operational in 2026 and 2027, respectively.
Furthermore, the 500 kV transmission channel of the Tianwan nuclear power plant is the only channel sending out power to the Yangtze River Delta.
Besides, State Grid Lianyungang Power Supply Company has redoubled efforts to strengthen grid operation and maintenance, ensuring the safety of green nuclear power and meeting market demand.
The commissioning of the smart inspection station has further improved the reliability of transmission lines, said Fu Xiangyun, director of the equipment management department of the State Grid Lianyungang Power Supply Company. (Edited by Yang Linlin with Xinhua Silk Road, linlinyanglyn@163.com)
