BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- North China's Tianjin Municipality has developed a new type of power system represented by new distribution networks with a high hosting capability, achieving the integration of power sources, power grids, loads, and energy storage to ensure more new energy consumption.
This power system is built to cope with the increasing demands for electricity in sweltering summer days and the new energy consumption bottleneck in Tianjin's northern mountainous areas where new energies are connected to power grids at a faster pace.
The new distribution networks are piloted in the Jizhou District in northern Tianjin. Boasting abundant wind and solar resources, the mountainous district has seen its installed capacity of new energies such as solar and wind grow rapidly in recent years, which is expected to surge 346.67 percent year on year to reach 1,340 megawatts by the end of this year.
Intelligent integrated terminals, electric vehicle charging piles, and energy storage devices have been deployed in the Tayuan Village in Jizhou District. Ou Ganxin, deputy general manager of State Grid Tianjin Jizhou Power Supply Company, said there is a mismatch between peak new energy-based power generation and peak electricity consumption. The intelligent integrated terminals, serving as regional "brains", can increase the consumption of new energies by balancing new energy grid-connection in peak and off-peak hours.
Energy storage devices also play an important role. Since energy storage units are installed in the village, the distributed photovoltaic (PV) consumption capacity has been greatly improved. Many villagers who hesitated have applied to install the devices, said Guo Changyou, director of the Tayuan village committee, adding the construction of PV equipment has brought an annual income of 12,000 yuan (about 1,680 U.S. dollars) on average to each household in the village.
