BEIJING, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Changji Public Traffic Group Co., Ltd. completed the signing of an agent contract of purchase and sale of electricity on Wednesday, and purchased 1,500 renewable energy green electricity certificates (green certificates) for its own charging piles, making it become the largest urban bus company using green pile charging green electricity in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The green certificates are the electronic "identity cards" for green electricity, and are the only proof of environmental attributes of renewable energy electricity in China. Only with a green certificate can power generation enterprises and power users respectively prove that they have generated and used green electricity.
Through this purchase, the company is expected to reduce standard coal consumption by about 600 tonnes and carbon dioxide emissions by about 886 tonnes.
The company has implemented the replacement of new energy public transport, with 354 existing public transport vehicles, including 174 pure electric buses and 62 plug-in hybrid electric buses, according to Wei Gongwang, deputy general manager of Changji Public Traffic Group.
The State Grid Changji Power Supply Company, a branch of State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Company, has been actively guiding enterprises to expand green energy use. Since this year, it has promoted a total of 137 million kWh of green electricity and 173,800 green certificates, two times and 430 times higher than last year, respectively.
The State Grid Xinjiang Electric Power Company also actively promotes green power trading and the multi-scenario supply of green electricity and green certificates, broadens customer purchase channels, and deeply taps the potential of green electricity consumption.
Since the beginning of this year, Xinjiang has set up the green electricity and green certificate service station, which can provide customers with services including green electricity purchase, green certificate trading, consulting services, market information collection, etc., to meet the needs of enterprises for low-carbon energy use.
From January to July, the volume of green electricity transactions in Xinjiang reached 1.019 billion kWh, an increase of 2.4 times compared with the total volume of green electricity transactions in 2023, and electricity customers in Xinjiang purchased over 1.66 million green certificates, 4.1 times that of the same period last year.
