Roundup: China's comprehensively deepening reform "great boon" to world economic growth: Cambodian experts

August 12, 2024

Abstract : China's further comprehensive deepening of reforms in the new era is a "great boon" to the world economic growth and development, Cambodian experts said during a dialogue here on Friday.

PHNOM PENH, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) -- China's further comprehensive deepening of reforms in the new era is a "great boon" to the world economic growth and development, Cambodian experts said during a dialogue here on Friday.

The third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee last month adopted a resolution on further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernization, a blueprint that will guide China's reforms and opening-up for years to come.

Sok Touch, president of the Royal Academy of Cambodia, said he had observed that the CPC plenum had set out a number of initiatives, aiming at bringing peace, stability, prosperity, connectivity and harmony to the region and the world at large.

"China's further comprehensive deepening of reforms will not only boost China's high-quality economic growth and development in all fields, but also give new momentum to the development of all countries around the world," he said in a speech at a "Global Opportunities of China's Deepening Reform in the New Era" Global Dialogue Series Cambodia session, with more than 200 participants.

As Cambodia and China are "iron-clad" friends, Sok Touch is confident that the outcomes of the CPC plenum would create greater opportunities for cooperation between Cambodia and China, particularly in economy, trade, investment, industries, agriculture, tourism, technological development, innovation, and green development.

Kin Phea, director general of the International Relations Institute of Cambodia, said the outcomes of the CPC plenum had laid a solid foundation for building a prosperous Chinese society and were a great boon for regional and global economic growth and development.

"The outcomes of the CPC plenum will inject fresh impetus into China's proposed global initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative, the Global Civilization Initiative, the Global Development Initiative, and the Global Security Initiative, with the ultimate goal of building peace, stability, prosperity, connectivity and harmony in the world," he said.

China's further comprehensive deepening of reforms will provide wider opportunities for expanding mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between China and the rest of the world, Phea said, adding that China's remarkably resilient economy is a catalyst behind sustainable economic growth in the region and in the world.

Ky Sereyvath, director-general of the Institute of China Studies, said China's further comprehensive deepening of reforms will generate greater market opportunities for the world, injecting stronger energy into building a community with a shared future for mankind.

"China's robust economy will continue to provide greater benefits to the world," he said. "China's peaceful development will continue to provide opportunities to the world, including Cambodia, in socio-economic development and poverty alleviation."

Sereyvath said China is a key driving force for global economic growth because it has been a major manufacturing hub for the world, and China is also a huge market for the world.

"China's reforms and opening-up policy has allowed international firms to export more products to China and vice-versa," he said.

Chea Munyrith, president of the Cambodian-Chinese Evolution Researchers Association, said China's further comprehensive deepening of reforms and Chinese modernization have brought unprecedented new opportunities for cooperation between Cambodia and China.

"As China's economy continues to grow and its opening-up is wider, Cambodia, a staunch supporter of the Belt and Road Initiative and the three other China-proposed global initiatives, will reap greater benefits from their close cooperation," he said.

"China has been and will continue to be a key contributor to global peace, security and development, and a major advocate for free trade and multilateralism for mutual benefits and win-win cooperation," Munyrith said.

Soy Sopheap, president of the Cambodia China Journalist Association, said Cambodia will surely benefit in all fields from China's reforms and opening-up.

"Through China's BRI and the action plan for building the Cambodia-China community with a shared future, we have reaped tremendous benefits in the development of hard and soft infrastructure in Cambodia," he said.

Sopheap said China is a key contributor in maintaining peace through supporting the development of least-developed countries, enabling them to stand on equal footing with other countries.
