BEIJING, July 5 (Xinhua) -- China's Yangtze River Delta region handled over 2,538 trips made by China-Europe freight trains over the first half of this year, carrying over 266,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of goods, up 12.8 percent year on year, according to the China Railway Shanghai Group Co., Ltd.
In recent years, the region has seen growth in directions, number and frequency of China-Europe freight trains trips. From 2017 to 2023, the annual number of China-Europe freight train trips in the region surged from 1,122 to 4,185, with the share of return trips up from 5 percent to 36.3 percent.
The "steel camels" link China and Europe, strengthening international economic and trade cooperation, said the company.
Goods carried by China-Europe freight trains passing through the region have been expanded over the past years, including Yiwu small commodities, textile products and garments, photovoltaic modules, auto parts, mechanical equipment and home appliances.
Besides, the operation modes have been upgraded to improve quality and efficiency of the trips. For example, customs in the region have taken a slew of measures to manage container space, accelerate custom clearance and integrate container management systems.
