SULAYMANIYAH, June 12 (Xinhua) -- The first Chinese Film Week in Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdistan region kicked off Tuesday in Sulaymaniyah city, with nearly 100 representatives attending the opening ceremony.
Liu Jun, Chinese consul general in Erbil, said in his opening speech that the Chinese Film Week signified not only the deepening of cultural exchanges between China and Iraq, but also the enrichment of the strategic partnership between the two sides.
Governor of Sulaymaniyah Province Haval Abubakir said more and more people in the Kurdistan region wanted to learn more about China, its economic development, history, and culture, expressing hope that the Chinese Film Week would serve as a window for the people of the Kurdistan region to better understand China and promote people-to-people exchanges.
The Chinese Film Week, co-organized by the Chinese Consulate General in Erbil and China Movie Channel, and hosted by Kurdsat Broadcasting Corporation, is one of the cultural activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
During the event, five Chinese films will be shown, including Beginning Of the Great Revival, and The Bugle from Gutian.
