DAMASCUS, May 29 (Xinhua) -- Syria has showcased its rich antiquities across China in recent years, fostering cultural exchange between the two ancient civilizations, said Mohammed Nazeer Awad, head of Syria's General Directorate for Antiquities and Museums.
In a recent interview with Xinhua, Awad emphasized the significance of exhibiting Syrian antiquities in China. He noted that such events introduce Syrian culture to a global audience, enhance cultural ties with the Chinese people, and strengthen the bond between the two nations through mutual learning and collaboration.
"We wanted the expo showcasing Syrian antiquities in China to be accessible to visitors worldwide to get to know Syrian civilization," Awad said.
He noted that there was a decision to extend the exhibition in China, saying the decision was based on the credibility and effective management observed during the events, with the artifacts presented elegantly and with the aid of technology.
Furthermore, Awad mentioned plans to participate in a conference organized by the Shanghai Museum, focusing on intangible heritage.
It indicates an expansion of cultural cooperation between Syria and China in various areas, including heritage, arts, theaters, and hosting artistic groups, he said.
Since June 2021, hundreds of Syrian cultural relics, including stoneware, bronzeware, and statues from the Syrian National Museum and other museums, have been displayed at multiple sites across China. The event was jointly organized by the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center and the Directorate for Antiquities and Museums in Syria.
The Syrian cultural relics have traveled to over 10 sites, reaching approximately 1 million Chinese visitors. Several relics unearthed in ancient Chinese sites are also displayed with Syrian antiques to highlight the historical cultural and trade exchanges between China and Syria.
