BEIJING, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The electric vehicles charging volume in central China’s Henan Province surged to record highs during the five-day May Day holiday which ended on May 5, as residents have become in favor of green and intelligent travels, said the State Grid Henan Electric Power Company.
According to its statistics, the EV charging facilities at high-speed network across the province recorded 2.46 million kWh of electricity usage, with an average of 491,600 kWh per day. The daily average electricity usage surged 89.84 percent compared with that during the same period in 2023 and an increase of 27.14 percent from that in the three-day Qingming Festival holiday in early April this year.
"In order to ensure majority of new energy car owners travel without worry, we sent out a notice of possible busy service areas in advance, reminded users to arrange their charging plans in accordance with the notice, and deployed mobile energy storage vehicles in the busy service areas to ensure electricity supply, " said Jiao Shukun, deputy director of the Marketing Center of the State Grid Henan Electric Vehicle Company.
In order to cope with the surging demand, State Grid Jiaozuo Power Supply Company, a subsidiary of the State Grid Henan Electric Power Company, analyzed charging pile utilization rate and charging time of each charging station to work out a plan to reduce waiting time for travelers.
At present, the grid company has built a total of 243 charging stations and 1424 charging piles at 124 high-speed service areas in Henan to ensure increasing charging demand in the province. (Edited by Jiang Yujuan, jiangyj@xinhua.org)
