BEIJING, May 6 (Xinhua) -- China's box office grossed over 1.52 billion yuan (about 210 million U.S. dollars) during the five-day holiday ending Sunday, marking the third highest-grossing May Day holiday in history.
According to film data platform Beacon, the holiday witnessed a record-breaking number of screenings, totaling 2.4 million.
Leading the holiday sales chart was the action thriller "Formed Police Unit," which earned 405 million yuan. It was followed by the Chinese comedy "The Last Frenzy," which explores life's choices in the face of death, with 390 million yuan.
Hong Kong action crime thriller "Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In" secured the third position, earning a total of 252 million yuan during the holiday.
