BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- Shipments of 5G mobile phones in China amounted to 56.43 million units in the first quarter of this year, latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) showed on Thursday.
This volume accounted for 83.7 percent of the country's total phone shipments during the same period, said Zhao Zhiguo, the ministry's chief engineer.
The number of 5G base stations in China had risen to nearly 3.65 million by the end of March 2024, latest data from the MIIT showed.
From smart mines to intelligent factories and medical treatment, digital technologies are being quickly and effectively applied in various sectors. According to MIIT data, 5G technologies have been integrated into 74 major economic categories in China.
Efforts will be made to promote the integration of 5G with big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence and other technologies to achieve more innovation and positive results, Zhao said.
