BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The China-Europe freight trains have run a total of 2,928 trips in the first two months of 2024, delivering 317,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers of goods, up by 9 percent and 10 percent year-on-year respectively. By the end of February, the China-Europe freight trains have departed from 120 cities in China and reached 219 cities in 25 European countries, according to the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway).
Since the beginning of this year, China Railway has been boosting international railway cooperation, contributing to the high-quality development of China-Europe freight trains. The company has opened up new southern routes for China-Europe freight trains from cities such as Xi’an, Chongqing, and Yiwu to Poti in Georgia, Baku in Azerbaijan, and Istanbul in Türkiye, etc., completing 18 services so far this year.
Meanwhile, China Railway has optimized the overall operation of China-Europe freight trains. With coordinated efforts in the scheduling of trains and routes, the company as facilitated customs clearance, increasing the cargo volume of the western, central, and eastern routes by 9 percent, 19 percent, and 4 percent, respectively. During the Spring Festival holiday, the China-Europe freight trains ran 53 trips on average per day, a year-on-year increase of 10 percent.
Furthermore, China Railway has improved the service of China-Europe freight trains. A total of 45 trips have been run since the beginning of 2024, ensuring timely transportation service at home and abroad. The portal of China-Europe freight trains has been put into operation, providing multilingual services to global customers and continuously improving user experience.
