BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A truck fully loaded muskmelons imported from Kyrgyzstan entered China via the Irkeshtam port in Kashgar, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Thursday.
This marks the first batch of imported agricultural products from abroad since the unveiling of Kashgar Area of China (Xinjiang) Pilot Free Trade Zone in the city in November last year, according to a report by China News Service (CNS).
It is reported that this batch of muskmelons weighing a total of 20 tonnes worth 100,000 yuan were transported by trucks with temperature control, departing from Osh in Kyrgyzstan and arriving at the Irkeshtam port within just 24 hours.
There was a shortage of melons in the winter fruit market in the but growing demand, and muskmelons from Kyrgyzstan were introduced into Chinese market, CNS report quoted a source with Kashgar Salih Trade Co., Ltd.
