BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- A series of cultural events held in Pingyi County of Linyi City in east China's Shandong Province have come to a close recently. These events included the first Zengzi filial piety and goodness cultural festival and a Zengzi culture symposium, aimed at promoting and passing on the culture of Zengzi.
Pingyi is the hometown of this ancient Chinese philosopher. As a disciple of Confucius, he participated in compiling Chinese classics such as the Analects and the Great Learning. He put forward political views on self-cultivation, family regulation, governance, and universal peace, as well as the concept of filial piety, which have had a profound influence on Chinese culture.
In recent years, Pingyi has explored its excellent traditional culture in depth to build the Zengzi cultural brand. Currently, in Pingyi, signs of Zengzi's cultural elements are everywhere, such as statues of Zengzi, and schools, roads and communities named after elements of Zengzi.
Pingyi has been digging into and promoting filial culture, guiding people to be filial and loving toward the elderly. At present, a Zengzi cultural research association and a filial culture association have been established in the county.
Through organizing and arranging opera and other artistic programs, and conducting classic reading and speech contests in primary and secondary schools, Pingyi promotes the excellent ideological and cultural heritage of Zengzi.
