BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- China's mobile phone shipments topped 29.162 million in October, up 19.7 percent year on year, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT).
5G phones took the lion's share of October's shipments with 26.435 million units, marking an expansion of 35.5 percent year on year, said the CAICT, a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
In the first ten months this year, total cellphone shipments increased by 4.2 percent year on year to 230 million units. Among them, 5G phones shipments reached 188 million units, up 8.9 percent year on year, the data showed.
Domestic brands continued to dominate China's mobile phone market in October, with shipments totaling 18.013 million units, up 7.2 percent year on year, accounting for 61.8 percent of October's total.
A total of 49 new cellphone models hit the domestic market in October, rising 63.3 percent year on year, CAICT data showed.
