ZHENGZHOU, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Recent heavy snowfall has led to surging power demand for heating in central China’s Henan province and driven the peak load of the local power grid up to nearly 54 million kilowatts on December 10, an increase of four million kilowatts compared with that before the snowfall.
In order to ensure stable power supply, State Grid Henan Electric Power Company has strengthened scientific regulation and control of the power grids, guaranteed power supply to users such as hospitals, heating, transportation, communication, water and gas supply and coal-to-electricity facilities.
In Sanmenxia city, the power grid company prepared two ice melting vehicles, five sets of de-icing devices and 225 emergency workers to ensure power supply.
Its Jiaozuo unit carried out inspections on 92 power transmission and distribution lines and 23 sub-stations, and organized 27 emergency repair teams, 118 emergency repair workers and 34 emergency repair vehicles.
At present, the company has put more than 22 thousand emergency repair workers, 4,850 emergency repair vehicles, 1,061 generators, and 26 ice melting devices in place, on the expectation that Henan’s peak load will continue to rise during the cold days. (Edited by Wang Shang, wangsheng@xinhua.org)
