BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Fengjie County in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality, known for high-quality navel oranges thanks to its ecological advantages and climate, recently held an promotion activity in Beijing to expand the brand influence and sales of Fengjie navel oranges.
The activity came as a part of the 13th national fair on high-quality agricultural products, which was held from December 7 to 10 at the National Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing. The activity also saw a ceremony marking the official launch of Fengjie navel oranges in the Beijing market.
So far, the planting area of navel oranges adds up to 375,000 mu (25,000 hectares) in Fengjie County, with expected production reaching 470,000 tons this year, said Gong Yisheng, head of the county government, noting that the brand value of Fengjie navel oranges has reached 18.28 billion yuan (about 2.54 billion U.S. dollars).
Participating in the national agricultural fair, six enterprises had brought over 20 types of navel orange products to display at the booth featuring Fengjie navel oranges, attracting retailers and consumers at the event to taste and buy.
During the exhibition, local suppliers of Fengjie navel orange reached cooperation consensus with supermarkets and fruit stores in Beijing, authorizing six Beijing retailers as brand dealers of Fengjie navel oranges. (Edited by Yu Huichen with Xinhua Silk Road, yuhuichen@xinhua.org)
