Digital economy fits the future development trend of the world. Since proposed in 2017, the Digital Silk Road has given brand-new connotations to the BRI, and serves as an important engine for the high-quality development. With the progress of specific projects, digital cooperation has brought new opportunities and larger development space for more participating countries of the BRI.

In terms of digital infrastructure, China and the participating countries have enhanced cooperation in such fields as communication and Internet. Some projects, including ZTE's Village Connectivity Program have upgraded information infrastructure and turned interconnectivity into a reality, while other projects such as the China-ASEAN Information Harbor have given a strong digital boost to regional cooperation.

In terms of digital supply chain, the new-generation information technology is more widely applied in areas important to the public wellbeing. Typical projects such as United Imaging empowers the Belt and Road cooperation with digital healthcare. Through other projects such as Transsion Holdings' digital factory in Bangladesh, the global supply chain is further integrated, facilitating the sharing of digital technology achievements among participating countries of the BRI.

Currently, the Beidou Navigation Satellite System, which is built and operated by China, has become a major new-type infrastructure that provides all-time, all-weather and high-accuracy positioning, navigation and timing services to global users.

In terms of digital trade, projects represented by JD Logistics are making global trade more convenient, bringing tangible benefits to people of the participating countries by digital development.

Founded in 2014, Kilimall, a Chinese e-commerce platform which is rooted in Africa, is a symbol of high-quality products, diverse choices, affordable prices, and efficient services for many African consumers. The entrepreneurial spirit will be the driving force that changes Africa, said Yang Tao, the founder of Kilimall.

Currently, technological innovations such as Internet, big data, and artificial intelligence continue to create new supply and demand, bring new opportunities and give birth to new dreams. Building the Digital Silk Road needs greater determination and stronger strength for all participating countries of the BRI to better cooperate and help more projects to start, grow and succeed.
