BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Shandong Electric Power Co., Ltd. has been helping boost rural economy in east China’s Shandong Province by increasing its investment in solar and wind power projects and improving its services in rural areas.
In Linshu County, in the south of Shandong Province, the company has upgraded the Zhu Village’s power grid which now could support smooth transmission of hydro-power and solar power in the neighborhood and help increase the supply of green electricity to the village.
The power grid company has also improved its services to help more than 170 households in the Zhu Village to get their rooftop solar power connected to the grid in a fast pace, which help these residents gain over 1.8 million yuan of revenues annually.
In order to meet local residents’ electric vehicle charging demand, the company built an 115kW rooftop solar power station with a 100kWh storage system at the local EV charging station.
Linshu has been famous for its willow-branch wicker furniture, with annual exports at nearly 2.2 billion yuan. With efforts to reduce carbon emissions, Shandong Electric Power has encouraged the electrification of peel breakers, steamers, and dryers, the major tools for wicker furniture making.
“With electrification of the machines, we now could make furniture even in rainy days, which helps us save time and cost,” said Zhang Zhiquan, a local wick furniture maker. (Edited by Jiang Yujuan, jiangyj@xinhua.org)
