BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- On August 26, the "Jiaze" dredger was working on dredging and sandstone excavation in the Lishui waterway of central China's Hunan Province, aiming to achieve the goal of full navigation of the key construction project of Lishui water transportation by the end of 2024.
The "Jiaze" dredging operation vessel, affiliated with the Hunan Provincial Water Transportation Construction and Investment Group Co., Ltd., completed its electrification transformation in March 2022 with the empowerment of the State Grid Changde Power Supply Company. It is the first demonstration vessel in Hunan that has realized energy substitution through electricity.
After technical discussions involving experts from various fields including electricity, water resources, shipping, and power, the technical team of the State Grid Changde Power Supply Company installed mobile box-type substations on the river islands and banks in the central area of the dredger's operation range. They supplied clean and quiet electrical energy to the operation ship through flexible waterproof cables equipped with floating buoys.
Before the transformation, the two diesel generators on the "Jiaze" with an actual effective power of 565 kilowatts consumed about 420,000 liters of oil per year, costing more than 2.67 million yuan, while also emitting 1,110 tonnes of carbon dioxide and a large amount of dust and particulate matter.
After using grid power supply, the one-time construction cost for replacing electricity on the vessel is about 800,000 yuan, and the annual electricity fee amounts to about 1.5 million yuan. Moreover, the ship has basically achieved zero pollution, zero emissions, and lower noise.
In 2022, three operation vessels completed the "oil-to-electricity" transformation in Changde, and another four operation vessels signed contracts for the "oil-to-electricity" project. All will be fully transformed and put into operation within this year.
Now, Changde's energy replacement project has become a significant support and demonstration project to stride towards the carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals.
