BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The whole industrial chain of graphene has taken shape in China, covering all links ranging from upstream raw materials to graphene material manufacturing and downstream applications, Science and Technology Daily reported quoting Yuan Jiahu, head of Chongqing Institute of Green and Intelligent Technology under Chinese Academy of Sciences, at a forum held on July 22 in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality.
Graphene is a new type of nano-material featuring excellent optical, electrical and mechanical properties. Combined with other metallic and non-metallic materials, it can be used in fields such as energy, biomedicine, aviation, aerospace, and electronics.
Since 2012, China has intensified its efforts on the development of graphene-related technologies, which now are widely used in areas like electrochemical energy storage, marine engineering, flexible electronic devices, environmental protection technology and equipment, automobile, and aerospace.
Thanks to policy support and the rapid development of China's new energy and semiconductor sectors in recent years, the demand for graphene has witnessed an impressive boom, leading to an expanding industrial scale.
The scale of China's graphene industry reached 26.5 billion yuan in 2021 and jumped to around 33.5 billion yuan in 2022, while the global market share of China's graphene sector has exceeded 30 percent in recent years, according to a report released on Monday by Chyxx.com, a China-based industrial intelligence service provider.
