BEIJING, July 4 (Xinhua) -- Guoyuan Port in southwest China's Chongqing, one of the largest ports on the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, is bustling with activity.
Data showed that Guoyuan Port has witnessed robust growth in cargo and container throughput in the first five months of this year.
The cargo throughput of Guoyuan Port reached 11.011 million tonnes from January to May, up 10.7 percent year on year.
A total of 400,000 twenty-foot equivalent units of containers were handled by the port during the same period, surging 13.2 percent year on year.
Also worth noting is that Guoyuan Port is a 16-berth port connected to the railway in Chongqing and has developed into an important multi-mode transport hub in China.
In 2022, the port handled a total of 488 rail-sea intermodal trains running along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
As a green port, Guoyuan Port also provides shore-side electrical power for docking ships.
By now, about 15 shore power facilities have been installed on the port which have charged a total of 650,000 kWh of electricity for ships, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 569 tonnes.
Staffs of State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company carry out special inspections at the Guoyuan Port.
It is learned that with the port's upcoming peak of freight transportation this summer, State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Company set up a "one-stop" service team and carried out a slew of measures, such as safety inspections, to ensure the port's smooth power supply.
