BEIJING, June 27 (Xinhua) -- China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), the country's leading nuclear power operator, recently released its 2023 sustainable development report at a press conference in Paris, reported the Xinhua-run China Securities Journal.
The report, presented in the three languages of Chinese, English and French, shares the company's practices of sustainability, actions to fulfill corporate social responsibilities and protect environment.
As an international clean energy enterprise, CGN is committed to developing nuclear power. It also actively pursues the development of other clean energy sources such as wind and solar power, Li Li, member of the board of directors of CGN, said at the press conference.
According to Li, CGN generated 237.8 billion kilowatt-hours of green electricity for overseas markets from 2018 to 2022. The clean energy generation was equivalent to reducing consumption of 71.70 million tonnes of standard coal, cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 191.43 million tonnes, and planting 535,100 hectares of trees.
In places where its projects are located, CGN actively works with local communities to protect ecological system. For example, the company made several modifications to the design plans of its Husab uranium mine project in Namibia in partnership with local botanists, making sure that the country's national flower of Welwitschia mirabilis can continue blossoming.
In terms of fulfilling social responsibilities, CGN ensures the safety and health of employees and the stable operation of projects through a sound safety management system and comprehensive safety capability improvement actions. In 2022, the company's 47 overseas projects all maintained safe and stable operation, according to the report.
Meanwhile, CGN contributes to the economic and social development of overseas markets by facilitating local employment. The report tells that as of the end of 2022, local employees accounted for 93.31 percent of the total headcount of CGN's overseas branches, with the proportion of local management personnel reaching 72.73 percent.
