BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Mining multinational Rio Tinto on Monday signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the China International Import Expo (CIIE) Bureau to secure partnership with the CIIE in the next five years.
Over the past five years, the CIIE has grown into an important bridge for China to share development opportunities with the world and promote global innovation, said Alf Barrios, Rio Tinto's chief commercial officer and China chairman.
"The agreement we signed today marks the beginning of a new chapter in our partnership with the CIIE and makes us exited about future potentials," Barrios said, noting that Rio Tinto will explore more cooperation opportunities with Chinese partners in the next five years, bringing latest products and solutions of low-carbon transition to head toward a prosperous shared future.
As one of the world's leading mining companies, Rio Tinto has made remarkable progress in promoting green and low-carbon transition, according to Liu Fuxue, deputy director of the CIIE Bureau. In terms of international cooperation, the company has expanded from facilitating trade and investment to promoting joint efforts in low-carbon technology, green development and digital innovation, Liu said, noting that the partnership between the CIIE Bureau and Rio Tinto should contribute to sustainable development at a global scale.
The sixth CIIE is expected to be held offline in east China's Shanghai from November 5 to 10 this year.
