E.China's Shandong Ji’nan Start-Up Area prioritizes green development to build modern city

May 23, 2023

Abstract : Shandong Province's Ji'nan Start-Up Area attached great importance to the low carbon and green development philosophy in building a modern and garden-style city.

BEIJING, May 23 (Xinhua) -- Shandong Province's Ji'nan Start-Up Area attached great importance to the low carbon and green development philosophy in building a modern and garden-style city.

From the Yellow River ecological landscape belt to the manufacturing system for hydrogen energy-led new energy industries, green development philosophy is becoming the key principle that guides local ecological and economic development now.

In spring, summer and autumn, crowds of visitors are attracted by the splendid flower sea view near the Yellow River dike thanks to a demonstration section of the Yellow River ecological landscape belt.

Ji'nan Start-Up Area constructed the four kilometers long demonstration section with an average width of 100 meters to strengthen the Yellow River basin ecology protection, which serves as the fundamental of green development in the area.

Recent years, heights of the river bed within the Ji'nan Start-Up Area, which used to be 4-6 meters higher than those of the urban zones on the south bank, has been dropping year by year due to construction of the full section anti-flood demonstration zone.

With an anti-flood system basically in shape, a solider basis has been built for the start-up area to prosper and develop together with the Yellow River.

Adhering to requirements of its construction plan, Ji'nan Start-Up Area also largely promoted application of buildings with super low energy consumption, with its demonstration zone launched on April 25 to further foster its green and low carbon development.

Covering a planned area of 12 square kilometers, the demonstration zone is positioned as an ecological business district that includes a 4.8 square kilometers of centralized development zone and a 7.2 square kilometers of ecological function zone.

Within the area, projects under construction such as the central green valley at the northern end of the start-up area and the Yellow River ecological corridor protection forest and nursery garden project are all embodiment of its green development philosophy.

While guiding green transformation of industries, the start-up area accelerated the Ji'nan international sample plot investment promotion industrial park construction to establish its green and modern industrial system. To date, more than 20 advanced manufacturing enterprises have settled there. (Edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
