BEIJING, April 24 (Xinhua) -- China has accelerated the construction of smart expressway based on the vehicle-road synergy network, with 40 routes in 20 provinces being part of it, according to experts at the China Transport Technology Development Summit held on Sunday.
Li Liancheng, a researcher at the Institute of Comprehensive Transportation under the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), noted at the summit that China has gone through stages of feasible study and other preliminary preparations, and is heading for next stage of overall implementation.
Li added that after years of exploration, the country has settled on the development pattern of the integration of vehicles, road and cloud, with increasingly clear system, richer development philosophies and better industrial ecosystem.
Many regions have already promoted the construction of smart expressway while they are enhancing the infrastructure construction of expressway. For example, Suzhou City in east China's Jiangsu province started the project of belt expressway S17 equipped with vehicle-road synergy system, which enables autonomous driving.
