BEIJING, April 19 (Xinhua) -- China's international passenger flights have been steadily increasing since the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) started handling applications from Chinese and foreign airlines to resume and increase international passenger flights on Jan. 8, reported Economic Information Daily Tuesday quoting an official from CAAC.
Particularly, the shift to the summer and autumn flight season in 2023 has further accelerated the recovery of international flights, said Xu Qing, deputy head of the Department of Transport with CAAC.
From April 10 to 16, the international passenger flights in real operation reached 2,242 (each round trip counts as one flight), returning to 29.4 percent of the pre-epidemic level, and headed for 59 countries, back to 82 percent of the pre-epidemic level.
Chinese airlines handled 1,379.5 of the above-mentioned flights, accounting for 61.5 percent of the total, while foreign airlines handled 862.5, accounting for 38.5 percent of the total.
The top five countries with a large number of flights to China were Thailand, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.
In the next step, the CAAC will continue to handle applications from Chinese and foreign airlines for new international flights and resumption of such flights in a timely manner, and help solve difficulties and problems they encounter, so as to ensure the steady and orderly resumption of international passenger flights, noted Xu.
