BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhua) -- A China-Europe freight train, the 5000th of this kind, on Tuesday departed from China-Kazakhstan international logistics base in Lianyungang, east China's Jiangsu Province, headed for Central Asian countries, China News Service (CNS) reported.
The base has handled a total of 5,000 China-Europe freight train trips with over with 440,000 TEUs of goods since its operation.
The base operated China-Europe freight train routes with Central Asian countries at first, and then opened more routes with Türkiye and Germany, including 104 international freight stations.
The goods imported and exported by the cross-border freight train services have expanded from auto parts and electronic components to building materials, furniture, electronic equipment, grain as well as minerals. Some special cross-border freight trains have also been launched to transport ferroalloy, cotton yarn, coil steel and potash fertilizer.
Jiangsu Province handled 1,973 China-Europe freight train journeys in 2022, an increase of 9.6 percent year on year and hitting a record high, according to the report.
