BEIJING, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- The proportion of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in China's new car sales has increased from one eighth in 2021 to one fourth in 2022, Xu Xingfeng of the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) of China was quoted as saying at a press conference held last week.
Xu introduced that in 2022, China's new car sales hit 26.864 million units, a year-on-year increase of 2.1 percent, ranking the first in the world for 14 consecutive years. Among them, the performance of NEVs is eye-catching, with domestic sales seeing an annual growth rate of 93.4 percent. Export sales of NEVs increased by 131.4 percent year on year.
Earlier, China released an NEV industry development plan, proposing that by 2025, the sales volume of NEVs will reach about 20 percent of the total sales of new vehicles. Xu said that the proportion has now reached 25.6 percent, and the target has been completed three years ahead of schedule.
Talking about stabilizing and expanding automobile consumption, Xu pointed that China will further support the consumption of NEVs and the utilization environment in various aspects will be further improved.
