China-Italy Chamber of Commerce grows in China with new offices in Tianjin

January 20, 2023

Abstract : It is the eighth headquarter in the country for the institution led by Paolo Bazzoni with over 800 members.

MILAN, Jan. 19 (Class Editori) — The China-Italy Chamber of Commerce (CCIC) grows in the country and will open its eighth headquarter in Tianjin next spring. CCIC’s President Paolo Bazzoni announced during a two-day visit that ended yesterday in the city, which is home to Northern China’s most important port.

Tianjin, the fourth largest administrative municipality along with Beijing, Shanghai, and Chongqing, has a population of more than 15 million people and is a key hub of the expanded area that also includes Beijing and the Hebei province. It has been a very fertile ground for promotional activities in a wide range of sectors for years, from mechanical engineering to automotive, but also textiles, aviation, F&B, and consulting services.

The mission led to the signing of two important Memoranda of Understanding (MoU). The area’s interest in Italy has been growing significantly in recent years with a clear desire on the part of the Tianjin authorities to make the municipality an important center of Italian companies and Made in Italy.

At present, the main Italian presences are those of C.I.M.U. (Tianjin) Science Co., Ltd., Goglio (Tianjin) Packaging Co., Ltd., Regina (Tianjin) Chain & Belt Co., Ltd., SISME (Tianjin) Electric Motor Co., Tenova Technologies (Tianjin) Co., Ltd., Tianjin Zapi Motor Co., Ltd., and Wind Construction Building Materials (Tianjin) Co., Ltd.

With the opening of a new office in Tianjin, which will be based in the Italian SME Industrial Park and will also serve as a hub for Italian SME desks, the CCIC aims to further enhance the various business opportunities that exist for out companies already in site and become an important reference for Italian SMEs that are not yet present there and are planning to develop in this market.

The first step of the mission was the Exhibition Center of the Port of Tianjin Free Trade Zone, where the Italian delegation led by Bazzoni and composed by CCIC Advisor for North China Fabio Antonello, Secretary General Renzo Isler, and the Beijing Office’s management, went for an exploratory visited. They were welcomed by Zhao Xuesen, Vice Director of the Administrative Committee of the Port Free Trade Zone.

The visit then continued with a Government meeting with senior local officials, including Hong Shicong, Party Secretary and Director of the Administrative Committee of the Port Free Trade Zone.

The meeting concluded with the signing of two important MoU: the first with the Municipality Commercial Bureau, in the presence of Liu Zhiyong, Deputy Director and Chief Accountant of the Bureau, and the second with the Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone, in the presence of Zhao Xuesen.

The memoranda will facilitate the establishment of Italian companies and projects in an area already of strong potential, with concrete aid, services, and incentives from the counterparts, within an operation that will further increase the visibility of the Tianjin Italian SME Industrial Park and, as a result, of the rich and varied offer of Italian companies in the area.

The first day of meetings ended with a visit to Goglio (Tianjin) Packaging Co., Ltd., plants, where the CCIC delegation met with General Manager Mirko Turrina, also Deputy Director of the Chamber’s Mechanical Engineering Working Group (MEWG).

Founded in 1850 in Milan, Italy, Goglio S.p.A. heads a multinational Group with a worldwide presence with eight production plants. The Tianjin facility serves as a manufacturing and sales hub for all of Asia, with core competencies in aseptic bulk packaging. The company, located in the port’s free trade zone, has embarked on a major 15 million expansion project in 2021. The official start of the third production phase was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The second day opened with a meeting at the Nuovo Cinema Paradiso with Italian industrial companies located in Tianjin Municipality. The Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is a promotional facility located within the Italian Style Town, built in 1902 and now an important international platform for Sino-Italian economic and cultural exchanges.

The focus of the discussion was the organization of a roadshow in Tianjin aimed at highlighting the still untapped and lesser-known potential of Northern China as well as the launch of initiatives coordinated by the Chamber to further emphasize existing opportunities and facilities for entrepreneurs wishing to invest in the region.

The mission then continued with a meeting with Qiang Tian, Vice Governor of Hebei District, Zhang Ping, Director of the Commercial Bureau of the same District, and Li Yunfei, General Manager of the Tianjin Flight Investment & Management Group, during which the parties discussed the promotion of the Italian Products Exhibition Center, located inside the Nuovo Cinema Paradiso.

The Center will serve as a showcase and sales channel for major Made in Italy products. Among the topics touched upon was Tianjin Design Week, a key initiative organized in the area: the 10th edition will take place in the Italian Style Town in the second quarter of 2023.

The mission concluded with a meeting with Nankai University aimed at following up on the cooperation agreement signed at the end of 2022 with the CCIC. It was attended by Professor Yang Lin, Head of the Italian Department and Head of the Master’s Program in Area Studies, and Professor Letizia Vallini of the Italian Department.
