BEIJING, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's payment systems went through the third quarter of 2022 amid steady operation and bank account number, non-cash payment business and payment system business grew in general, reported Xinhua Finance recently.
By the end of September, 2022, there were 14.093 billion bank accounts in China, up 0.85 percent quarter on quarter, including 14.002 billion individual bank accounts, up 0.84 percent from the second quarter of 2022, said the report citing data released by the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the Chinese central bank on January 6, 2023.
In the third quarter of 2022, banks in China coped altogether with 127.637 trillion non-cash payment transactions or 1276.10 trillion yuan of non-cash payment, up 6.61 percent and 15.05 percent year on year respectively.
From July to September 2022, China's payment systems dealt with 298.336 billion payment transactions or payment of 2946.04 trillion yuan, up 17.38 percent and 22.40 percent year on year respectively.
Among the payment systems, Renminbi cross-border interbank payment system (CIPS) saw payment transactions number and value coped with in the third quarter of 2022 at 1.2318 million and 25.43 trillion yuan, up 43.76 percent and 17.30 percent year on year respectively.
Daily payment transactions handled via the CIPS averaged 19,000 and daily payment value via CIPS in the third quarter of 2022 stood at 391.215 billion yuan. (Edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
