MILAN, Dec 30 (Class Editori) — In the first half of 2022, exports of Italian wines came to be worth nearly 7.6 billion euros, up 13.5% compared to the same period last year. Italy is thus confirmed as second among the 27 countries in the EU, behind only France with its 11.7 billion, but Spain lags far behind with only 2.7 billion. The Made-in-Italy wines touched an all-time high at 0.4% of GDP, a value identical to that of France and twice as high as Spain’s 0.2%. This is the picture given by Confartigianato by processing ISTAT and European Commission data.
Veneto and Tuscany beat Germany and Portugal
Particularly interesting was the hybrid ranking combining all Italian regions with other countries in the EU provided by Confartigianato, the Italian organization of handicrafts and micro and small enterprises.
Veneto wins the bronze medal with 2.8 billion in wine exports, behind only France (11.7 billion) and Spain (2.7 billion), while Tuscany and Piedmont came fourth and fifth, respectively (both more than 1.2 billion), surpassing Germany (just over 1 billion) and Portugal, which stops at 921 million.
It came as no surprise then that Veneto leads Italy in terms of its share of regional value added (1.8%), more than tripling the national average of 0.5%. However, Friuli Venezia Giulia registered the most dynamic wine export in the first six months of 2022, thanks to a sudden rise of 55.4%. In term of comparison, Veneto’s variation is +18.7%.
