German industrial giant Siemens has unveiled one of the largest construction projects in its history at its Erlangen site (in the southern German state of Bavaria). The new Siemens campus, an open urban district with 540,000 square meters of space, will soon be home to 17,000 employees of Siemens and Siemens Energy, the company announced at the opening.
In the Nuremberg metropolitan region alone, the company said, investments totaling 1.2 billion euros have been made over the past 10 years. In addition to offices, including those for Siemens board members, and a reception building, a new laboratory building has also been built in Erlangen. There, research will be conducted together with university institutions into a number of fields including energy.
"In our research lab, we work together with partners on solutions for the energy transition. In this way, we support our customers on their way to a more sustainable future," said Siemens CEO Roland Busch.
