BEIJING, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vale S.A. started construction of Sol do Cerrado Solar Project, a 766MW photovoltaic (PV) solar power plant, in Minas Gerais of Brazil, in partnership with Jinko Solar, one of China's major solar technology companies recently, reported People.cn.
The project is one of the largest solar projects in Latin America, with a peak installed capacity of 766 megawatts, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of a city of 800,000 inhabitants. The Sol do Cerrado Solar park, which uses photovoltaic modules and spare parts provided by the Chinese company Jinko Solar, is an important project for close cooperation between Brazil corporateVale and Chinese company in the field of combating climate change.
The Sol do Cerrado Solar park consists of 17 sub-parks, four of which are already in use. After reaching its maximum generating capacity, the park will use 1.4 million solar panels, enabling maximize power generation capacity.
Electricity generation of the project is expected to reach peak in July 2023, when it will generate 16 percent of Vale's electricity consumption in Brazil, allowing Vale to reduce emissions by 134,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
