BEIJING, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The output value of China's geographical indication (GI) products stood at 703.376 billion yuan (about 98.3 billion U.S. dollars) in the year of 2021, said Zhang Zhicheng, an official with the country's National Intellectual Property Administration, on Wednesday.
According to Zhang, China had approved 2,495 GI products nationwide by the end of October this year.
Reforms have been seen in the field of GI, said Zhang, adding that two batches of pilots covering 20 provinces have been launched and 103 demonstration zones of GI products are under construction, covering 18 provinces in central and west China and many key counties receiving assistance for rural revitalization, which has contributed to the protection of GI products with high added-value.
In terms of international cooperation of GI products, the total number of EU GIs receiving protection in China has grown to 134 while Chinese GIs that are protected in the EU has reached 110, thanks to the China-European Union (EU) agreement on protecting GIs, which took effect in March 2021.
Going forward, the administration will work with other departments to roll out a a unified national certificate system and carry it out.
