BEIJING, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- In the centuries-long history of China's feather painting, a special art of using birds' feathers as raw materials for making artistic works, the feather painting of Lanling county in Linyi, east China's Shandong Province stands out for an innovative painting technique.
Lanling's feather painting, represented by Wang Shaonian feather painting named after the master Wang Shaonian, uses disinfected colorful feathers of various birds to replace ink in the drawing of pictures. Specifically, in this groundbreaking drawing method, birds' feathers are selected according to their colorfulness needed for a painting work. They then are cut and pasted on drawing paper or scrolls with adoption of brushwork technique of Chinese painting to form vivid images.
The themes of Wang Shaonian feather painting vary from mountains, waters, flowers, birds, fishes, insects to people, particularly historical celebrities of Shandong, such as Laozi and Confucius.
