BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) has recently signed the EPC general contract of Monsoon 600-megawatt (MW) wind power project and its second phase of cooperation agreement with Laos.
The Monsoon wind power project is located in the southern provinces of Sekong and Attapeu in Laos. The project comprises a wind power project with a contracted capacity of 600 MW to be constructed, as well as construction of booster stations and delivery lines, and etc.
It is learned the project marks the first wind power project in Laos and the largest single wind power project that Chinese enterprise participates overseas.
After completion, it will mainly transmit electricity to neighboring Vietnam. This is the first time that Laos has realized the cross-border transmission of new energy electricity, which will effectively alleviate the electricity shortage in central Vietnam. During the project life cycle, it is expected to achieve carbon emission reduction of 35 million tonnes.
