BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Top IPs in China's cultural industry remain displaying prominent value effect, showed the Xinhua·Cultural industry IP Indexes Report (2022) released by China Economic Information Service (CEIS) Wednesday.
According to the report, literature and animation IPs are now serving as the main origins of adapting and boast higher rate of successful adapting.
Nowadays, quality cultural IPs push forward the heritage of Chinese traditional culture and convey core value with realistic literature themes, said Yang Mu, vice president of CEIS.
Cultural consumption under the IP-enabled market environment is more apt to draw attention of investors and IP-related investment and financing market represents the most dynamic part of cultural industry investment and financing, noted Jin Wei, deputy head with the cultural finance research center under National Institute for Finance and Development.
By depicting interaction between cultural industry and the copyright, content and cultural consumption markets, the report is helpful to bolster cultural industry development and cultural consumption in China, added Jin.
Previously in 2019, CEIS started the Xinhua·Cultural industry IP indexes scheme. This year, the project team optimized the appraisal system of the IP value ranking list. As the latest cultural industry IP comprehensive performance curve shows, Pareto principle is more and more explicitly reflected in IP value. Taking "Doula Continent", which ranked the first on the list, as an instance, related works owned 13.55 million recommendations on m.qidian.com, a popular online fiction website, by June this year.
IP, which stands for a key connection between content creation and consumption, can be a converter to vitalize transformation of cultural resources into cultural works, cultural products, cultural brands and culture scenes, believed Song Yangyang, vice dean with the institute of creative industry technology under Renmin University of China.
Original IP adapted from cultural products such as literature, movies and TV plays, animation and games, and real life as well is the main source of cultural IP, reckoned Jia Xudong, professor with Communication University of China.
Recent years, the value of IP has been constantly proved and became the wind vane of the market, said Jia, highlighting at the same time the importance of improving the competitiveness of the original IP in China.
The report said that nearly 60 percent of IP has factored into acknowledgement from mainstream viewers. For example, "A Lifelong Journey", a TV play adapted from a long novel of the same name earlier this year recorded more than four billion views online, sending the related IP to rank the second on the IP value ranking list of this year's report.
In today's film and TV play industry, incubation of and support to content IP have been urged on and on and strengthening IP represents the origin and light-asset feature of film and TV play industry as compared with the capital-intensive films and cultural products alike, said Meng Zhong, deputy head with the scriptwriter education committee of China Film Association.
At present, China's online literature and related movies, games and animation products are broadly popular around the world, which expanded the influences of Chinese culture, said Wang Xiang, researcher with Luxun Literature Institute.
The report proposed that China's cultural IP construction is likely to focus more on the quality of content and return to creating classic characters, IPs, stories and images to satisfy users' spiritual and emotional demand. (Edited by Duan Jing with Xinhua Silk Road, duanjing@xinhua.org)
