BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The coastal city of Sanya in south China's Hainan Province has recently issued a plan to build itself into an international tourist destination by the year 2035, laying out 117 key projects with a total investment of over 138.5 billion yuan (about 19.02 billion U.S. dollars), reported China Securities Journal on Monday.
It is expected that Sanya, by 2025, will grow into one of China's leading tourist destinations and gain greater international recognition, showing emerging trends of tourism product structure optimization, industrial chain extension, industrial integration and innovation, as well as industrial clusters gathering, according to the plan.
By 2035, the city is planned to become a world-famous tourist destination, equipped with high-quality tourism consumption environment system, well-developed quality standard system and comprehensive tourism consumption policy system.
The plan also outlines the spatial layout of Sanya's tourism development, featuring the central city area as the core area, the eastern part of the city as the trendy consumption development area, and the western part as the integrated development area of cultural tourism. Three functional zones are also under planning, including a coastal tourism zone, a leisure vacation zone and a cultural themed zone.
