BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- China will enhance cooperation with Pacific island countries on dealing with climate change, reported Shanghai Securities News Thursday quoting the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).

Pacific island countries are one of the priorities for China to carry out South-South cooperation on climate change, said Li Gao, head of the Department of Climate Change with MEE, noting that to date, China has signed five documents on material assistance projects for South-South cooperation on climate change with four Pacific island countries, and held four training sessions on related capacity building, training nearly 100 professionals on climate change for these countries.

In April this year, the China-Pacific Island Countries Climate Action Cooperation Center was unveiled, and in September, the China-Pacific island countries dialogue on climate change was held, added Li, saying that the fifth capacity building training session will be held in December to help South Pacific island nations improve their ability to cope with climate change.

Li also noted that efforts would be made to step up communication and exchanges with South Pacific island countries to further coordinate related positions and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
