BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- The China (Shenyang) Rowing Development Index was officially unveiled on Tuesday. The launching ceremony of the index was held both online and offline in Beijing, capital of China and Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province.
The index is a comprehensive evaluation index portraying the integrated development of rowing and cities, which will provide strong support for the building of Shenyang as the "city of rowing" and also serve as a useful reference for the integrated development of sports industry and cities nationwide.
With Shenyang's rowing development as the main research object, the index was jointly compiled by China Economic Information Service (CEIS) and Shenyang Municipal People's Government.
The index takes 2018 as the base period, and analyzes from three dimensions including event charm, industrial development, and sports-city integration, in a move intended to study the development path and industry characteristics of rowing in Shenyang and meanwhile compare with sample cities at home and abroad.
Lv Zhicheng, deputy secretary of the CPC Shenyang Municipal Committee, and Jing Ruyue, secretary-general of Xinhua News Agency, attended the launching ceremony of the China (Shenyang) Rowing Development Index on Tuesday.
The China (Shenyang) Rowing Development Index report promotes the "Shenyang model" of China's rowing development, and puts "digital wings" on rowing, which is of significance to help Shenyang build itself into the "city of rowing" and advance the high-quality development of rowing in China, said an official of Shenyang Municipal People's Government.
As the first comprehensive evaluation index, the China (Shenyang) Rowing Development Index depicts the integrated development of rowing and cities in China, which has profound meaning to recognize and understand the close relationship between the sports industry and urban development, said Jiang Yiyi, deputy head of the School of Leisure Sports and Tourism under the Beijing Sport University.
Shenyang has a unique advantage in hosting rowing events. In recent years, Shenyang has vigorously developed rowing sports, and has achieved remarkable results in shaping rowing culture, developing rowing industry, cultivating rowing talents, and creating an IP that integrates urban culture and sports.
The index also confirms the rapid development of rowing in Shenyang. In 2021, the index stood at 198.16 points, with an average annual compound growth rate of 25.6 percent, indicating that Shenyang has made positive exploration and attempts in building brand events, developing rowing industry and promoting industrial integration.
