MILAN, Sep 22 (Class Editori) — Leonardo wants to strengthen its position in the South Korean market by presenting its portfolio of security systems at Seoul’s Defense & Security EXPO Korea which started yesterday and will end on September 24. The company led by CEO Alessandro Profumo aims at some key systems in its offer, such as the surveillance radar 3D RAT 31 DL, designed to operate as part of a modern air defense system.
In the framework of an evolution of tactical-strategic scenarios, Leonardo offers cutting-edge solutions for naval, land and air security, based on electronically scanned radar (AESA), which also includes the Kronos family and the brand new, fully digitalized Tactical Multi Mission Radar (TMMR).
In Seoul, for the protection against more serious threats, Leonardo is also promoting the Miysis DIRCM (Directed Infrared Countermeasure) System for airborne platform defense. The device provides 100% protection against infrared-guided missile threats.
Also on showcase at DX Korea 2022 is also Brite Cloud, compact air countermeasures that can be launched from standard dispensers in order to provide innovative protection against radar-guided surface-to-air missiles and air-to-air missiles.
For the land sector, at DX Korea 2022 Leonardo is also presenting Vulcan 155 mm ammunition, available in the variants BER (Ballistic Extended Range) and GLR (Guided Long Range): it is ammunition that can reach distances of up to 70 kilometers. Still for land protection, the company proposes the Hitfact MK II turret and other innovative equipment for armored vehicles.
The exhibition is an opportunity for Leonardo to highlight its capabilities in VTOL next-generation aircraft, presenting itself as the only European company capable of providing integrated unmanned aircraft solutions, from the platform and sensors to the ground control station up to the mission system. Its flagship product is AWHERO, a dual-use rotary-wing drone capable of civil and security operations, day and night, on land and sea.
Leonardo has had an office in Korea since 2013, but it is since the early 1990s that the Republic of Korea has been using Leonardo-made technologies, including helicopters, radar, communication and surveillance systems for air and naval applications, and naval defense systems.
Partnerships with local companies have already enabled the integration of various systems for domestic customers and export, such as the 76/62 Super Rapid multi-feeding gun. It has also supplied Super Lynx and AW159 maritime operations helicopters, currently employed by the Republic of Korea Navy, and a number of commercial and dual-use helicopters. One example is the AW139, the best-selling search and rescue and firefighting helicopter in its class.
One of the strengths of the Group's strategy in Korea is the cooperative relationship established between the Government and local companies, actively performing follow-up logistics management for helicopters.
Leonardo, which in the first half of this year recorded sales of more than 6.5 billion euros, with an order backlog of more than 36 billion euros, makes about 20% of total revenues in Asia.
