BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- China will take further measures to double down on the construction of a green belt and road (B&R), said Huang Runqiu, Minister of Ecology and Environment of China, Co-chair of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) International Green Development Coalition (BRIGC), at a roundtable forum held on Saturday.

According to a report posted on the ministry's official website, Huang addressed the forum themed "Sharing Low-carbon Innovation, Creating Low-carbon Future" via video link.

He said that as a responsible major country, China strives to make contributions to global sustainable development to build a community with a shared future for mankind. The country will promote the construction of a green B&R and deepen related cooperation with B&R countries to jointly deal with the challenge of climate change.

He added that international exchange and communication platforms, such as the BRIGC, could play an important role in deepening cooperation, exploring green innovations, sharing benefits along the B&R.

As the chairman of the COP 15 biodiversity conference, he called for political will and flexibility from all parties to achieve the ambitious and pragmatic post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

Grace Fu, Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment of Singapore, said that fruitful results have been attained since the BRI was proposed. Countries should work together in fields of technology and industry to build a low-carbon future. The BRIGC has provided a platform for communication and cooperation, pooling together knowledge, data and dialogue.

Experts from World Wildlife Fund (WWF), World Resources Institute (WRI), Energy Foundation and Singapore Institute of International Affairs also attended the forum, hailing China's contribution to global sustainable development and discussing topics of the construction of green B&R, sharing green innovations and green recovery and green transition after the COVID-19 pandemic.
