NANNING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Guangxi Precision Medicine Industrial Technology Research Institute, a precision medical science and technology researching and transforming body, was formally established in Nanning on Monday, with focus on boosting development of precision medicine research innovation and industrial application and building an AI-driven precision medicine eco-system in Guangxi.
The research institute was set up with joint efforts of Guangxi Precision Medicine Technology Co., Ltd, Institute of Biomedical Devices (Suzhou) of Southeast University (IBMD) and Guangxi Medical University.

At the opening ceremony held on Monday, Guangxi Precision Medicine Technology Co., Ltd. signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Garea Technology, a unicorn company in Jiangsu, to jointly develop digital medical and health service demonstrative projects, conduct technology research and business development and explore market potential of digital healthcare integration industry at home and abroad.
The both sides agreed to promote building of precision medicine eco-system with Guangxi characteristic by enhancing capacity of medical institutions in the prefecture- and county-level with precision medical diagnostic technology. They also vowed to further expand amalgamation of medical institutions and management of chronic diseases to more prefecture- and county-level hospitals.
Government officials of Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, addressed the opening ceremony to congratulate the establishment of the research institute and witnessed the signing of strategic agreement.
Ding Wei, deputy mayor of Nanning City, said biomedicine is an emerging industry that Nanning city government has been making great efforts to foster. Precision medicine, as part of industrial chain of biomedicine sector, enables traditional medical treatment to turn itself into a more active and targeted way of disease prevention and treatment. He urged the new research institute to better serve the people and the high-quality development of society and economy of the city with its new achievements.
Professor Mo Zengnan, director of the Genomics and Individualized Medical Research Center of Guangxi Medical University and strategic scientist of Guangxi Precision Medicine Industrial Technology Research Institute, said based on Guangxi Medical University's years of experience on the field, genomics and metabolomics technologies would be put as core approach to conduct the recent research, application and industrialization of the newly-established research institute.
Guangxi Precision Medicine Industrial Technology Research Institute has been granted license for third-party medical laboratory by Health Commission of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is eligible to provide testing service such as molecular diagnosis, gene sequencing, and mass spectrometry for metabolism. It has a series of products, most of them are in vitro diagnosis (IVD) reagents with independent intelligent property rights, which are about to be commercialized and enter the market soon.
