BEIJING, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) – A total of 25 tonnes of fresh grapes have left the production base of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (XPCC) in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region for Thailand, marking the grape exports enter the peak season this year, reported Chinanews.com Sunday.
Entering September of the year, the XPCC has ushered in a bumper harvest of local fruits. The high-quality fruits such as grapes have been exported to Southeast Asian markets.
As a characteristic industry in the XPCC, the grape plantation covers a total area of 18,000 mu (about 1200 hectares). The local produced Cresen grapes are well-known in domestic and foreign markets.
Rich soil, abundant light and other unique natural conditions make the grapes grown in XPCC with premium quality, while the continuous optimization and improvement of planting technology and management experience help the XPCC’s grape industry gain more income year by year.
Xu Jiang, director of the Agricultural Development Service Center of the XPCC, said that the center have paid close attention to the improvement of grape quality, and the grape exports are expected to top 2,000 tonnes this year, achieving a bumper harvest of both output value and quality.
According to the statistics, the fresh grapes produced in the XPCC have been exported to countries and regions in Europe, Oceania, and Southeast Asia. At the same time, a total of 1 million mu (about 66,666.67 hectares) of advantageous grape industry belt with large-scale planting and specialized production has been formed in the northern slope of Tianshan Mountain as well as the surrounding area of Tarim Basin in Xinjiang.
