BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) – The comprehensive ecological restoration project started since 2012 for the Chilechuan grassland in Hohhot, capital of north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has made remarkable achievements, restoring the charming grassland ecological scenery of the Chilechuan grassland, one of the landmark natural attractions in the region.
Before the year of 2012, affected by the local arid climate and reclamation and other factors, the ecological environment of the Chilechuan grassland was deteriorated to varying degrees, thus, Hohhot decided to put solid efforts to the ecological restoration of the grassland.
After nearly 10 years of comprehensive management, the grassland ecology of Chilechuan has been basically restored of self-recovery ability. In 2022, the grassland was also awarded one of the first pilot construction parties of grassland nature-park in China.
It is noted that the Chilechuan grassland has recorded a total of 5.58 million of tourists in 2021, realizing the tourism revenue of 2.05 billion yuan, further inject impetus to the local tourism industry.
According to statistics, in the past 10 year, the cumulative grass planting area of Inner Mongolia has reached 286 million mu, with annual desertification control area covering more than 12 million mu, which has increased the grassland vegetation coverage in the region from 40.3 percent to 45 percent, marking a crucial measure for the region to promote the construction of ecological civilization.
