BEIJING, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- Merck, a Germany-based pharmaceutical company, announced on September 2 that its Electronics Technology Center China and its first OLED Materials Production Site in China have been officially completed and put into operation, reported Shanghai Securities News Sunday.

It is learned that Merck's Electronics Technology Center China covers an area of about 3,300 square meters, with an initial investment of 30 million euros. It has an analytical laboratory, a process technology laboratory, and an application and research and development (R&D) laboratory under construction for the analysis, sample preparation, application testing and R&D of various electronic materials.

The center will inject power into the development of next-generation semiconductor and display technology by developing more innovative research based on new materials, actively exploring local talent pools, and making full use of its core advantages as a data and digital platform, said Kai Beckmann, a member of the Executive Board and CEO Electronics of Merck.

The OLED Materials Production Site put into operation this time is the third such site invested and built by Merck, with the first two respectively located in Germany and the Republic of Korea.

The OLED Materials Production Site in China enables Merck to improve its localization capability covering the complete value chain of OLED materials, according to Allan Gabor, president of Merck China and managing director of Merck Electronics China.

As a world's leading technology company focusing on medicine and health, life sciences and electronic technology, Merck has a development history of 89 years in China. In January this year, the company announced to additionally invest at least 1 billion yuan (about 130 million euros) in China by 2025, mainly in the field of electronic technology business with a focus on chip manufacturing.
