BEIJING, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- China has seen the total scale of its computing power exceed 150 EFlops by the end of June, ranking the second in the world, the Xinhua-run China Securities Journal reported on Monday.

The country's computing power sector has been developing rapidly, with an average growth rate of more than 30 percent in the past five years, Zhang Yunming, vice minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), said at the 2022 China Computational Power Conference held from July 29 to 31 in Jinan, east China's Shandong province.

Zhang added that as of the end of June, China is home to 1.85 million 5G base stations, over 450 million 5G mobile phone users, and more than 61 million gigabit optical fiber users.

More than 6.7 million standard racks will be used in data centers in China by the end of this year, according to China's comprehensive computing power index (2022) released during the conference.

Since the start of this year, 25 projects have kicked off in the 10 national data center clusters, driving investment of more than 190 billion yuan, said Wang Wei, director of the smart city division of the department of informatization and industry development under the State Information Center.
