BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Green bond issuance in China speeded up in the first half of this year, with semiannual issues totaling 410.069 billion yuan, up 67.21 percent year on year, reported Xinhua Finance.
In the first six months of 2022, 260 batches of green bonds were issued in China, up 30 percent year on year, including 74 batches of carbon neutrality bonds, all of which raised in total 119.40 billion yuan, showed statistics with the green bond database of China Chengxin green finance technology (Beijing) Ltd. (CCXGF).
Green bond issues from January to June of this year altogether took up 3.87 percent of the aggregate semiannual bond issues in China, up 1.65 percentage points from the figure in the same period of 2021, according to data from Choice and the green bond database of CCXGF.
Among different types of green bonds, green asset-backed securities issues largely outran the comparable number in the first half of 2021.
On the secondary market, green bonds trading sentiment improved significantly. Turnover of green bond spot transactions involving trading of 696 batches of green bonds reached 453.832 billion yuan in the first six months of this year, up 78.23 percent year on year.
Compared with others, green mid-term notes contributed 170.721 billion yuan of spot transactions which took up 37.62 percent of the total green bonds turnover in the first half of 2022. Green financial bond turnover was 126.473 billion yuan and accounted for 27.87 percent of the semiannual aggregate.
Generally, issuers for 76.70 percent of green bonds issued in the first half of this year enjoyed financing costs lower than the coupon rates of comparable bonds of other types issued on the same days from January to June this year.
By sectors, green bond issuers mostly came from banking, clean energy, thermal power, public utilities and financial leasing sectors. Data from the CCXGF green bond database showed that green bonds issued by issuers from these sectors accounted for 70.45 percent of the total green bond issues by value and 50.01 percent of the total green bond issues by the number of batches in the first half of 2022.
