BEIJING, June 7 (Xinhua) --  Taizhou, a port city in East China's Zhejiang Province, launches new direct shipping freight services to Vietnam on Monday to meet the growing shipping logistics demand, reported China News Service.

The first batch of 80 TEU containers worth a total of 2 million dollars departed from Taizhou's Damaiyu Port on Monday before heading to Vietnam's Haiphong Port within 4 days, marking the inauguration of the service.

The cargo including sprayers, PVC floor mats, daily necessities, wrapping paper, school supplies and other commodities will be delivered to customers and enterprises in Vietnam.

The launch of direct shipping services will cut the sailing time about 1 to 2 days, lowering the logistics cost for foreign trade companies, said Dai Chacong, general manager of Ningbo Xinggang International Shipping Agency Co., Ltd Taizhou branch.

At present, a total of 1,053 enterprises conducting foreign trade businesses with Vietnam have settled in Taizhou. The goods exported by these enterprises to Vietnam are mainly mechanical products, consumer goods, plastic products, etc. worth 1.522 billion yuan.

Taizhou's total import and export to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) member countries amounted to 16.99 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2022, accounting for 19.3 percent of the city's total import and export value, statistics of Taizhou Customs showed.
