WUHAN, June 2 (Xinhua) -- From January to May this year, Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei province, has operated a total of 182 China-Europe freight trains, a year-on-year increase of 63 percent, reported Hubei Daily Thursday citing statistics from China Railway Wuhan Group.

Specifically, 101 of the 182 trains were outbound while 81 ones were inbound, up 58 percent and 69 percent year-on-year respectively. It marks the best performance of  Wuhan China-Europe freight train during the first five months of a year since its debut in 2012, said relevant person in charge of railway department.

Notably, main export commodities of the cargo trains are auto parts, solar photovoltaic modules, clothing, daily necessities and anti-epidemic materials made in Hubei and surrounding provinces, while major imported goods are red wine, wood and non-staple food.

The growing number of cargo containers showed strong competitiveness of Hubei's commodities in European market, as well as the province's consumer confidence in European products.

Currently, Hubei has initially formed a railway cross-border trade channel combined by China-Europe freight trains and China-Laos international freight trains, creating a good logistics environment for provincial enterprises to go global.
